The photog geek-o-sphere has been awash with talk of the successor to the hugely popular EOS 5D MkII recently. Seems that them nice peeps at Canon are finally ready to drop the new version.
The spec lists have evolved from wish lists to looking pretty much real; most think the actual news will officially go out tomorrow.
Canon Rumours has the full break down but the key points for surf shooters are thus:
- 22.3MP full frame sensor (image quality is going to redonk)
- 6 frames per second motordrive (higher would be nice but this is totally workable)
- Class leading video functionality
- Body is between 3 and 6mm bigger in all directions so should hopefully fit 7D housings
Had a chinwag with Timmy J Nunn today about it and as one of the splitters that went over to Nikon a few years back he is looking at this as a very shiny carrot to bring him back to the fold.
Teamed with a 7D for long lens work this does look like a unit that we'll be seeing a lot of surf photog's rolling with...
Price is as yet unknown, but I hope they can bring it in to the UK for under £2Gs...
