Music For The Marches...

Atomsforpeace

It's spring. As evidenced by the 12˚C temperatures and a fun glove and hood free surf on Saturday. Fear not that today it's colder than Uranus today and tomorrow crystallised water is forecast to fall from the sky in a terrifying material know as snow. Yes, that's right. On the S coast tomoz tis snowmageddon. Probably.

Anyhoose. It's spring. Time for cleaning, lambs and if you've been tardy through the winter sprucing up your music collection. With that in mind I'm just gonna let you know what's floating my boat right now or soon will be.

The Yin & Yang Of Reading...

Reading Festival is the ultimate example of yin and yang.

For there to be light (yang) you need to have the dark (yin).

To experience the Cure in all their glory you have to deal with a refugee camp populated with feral middle class school leavers.

For every Foo Fighter's set that puts a smile on your dial there is the horror of a three day old long drop toilet.

It all balances out … or does it?

This Week I Am Mostly Listening To...

New_music

Smashing Pumpkins: Oceania. A welcome return to form from Billy Nosferatu Corgan and co.

Ladyhawke: Anxiety. The 70s infused Kiwi songstress effortlessly blasts through the difficult second album.

Alt-J: An Awesome Wave. No idea who the hell these guys are but one of the most interesting releases this year. Def worth checking out.

Metric: Synthetica. My favourite Canadians (not like I'm actually going to admit to you lot I like Rush is it?) drop their newby in this country on Monday. Tight as ever and Emily Haines voice is as lush as per ususal.

Naked & Famous...

I love the Naked & Famous. They're a Kiwi band. You might have heard this tune on The Art Of Flight but here is their video for it... Combining super-duper slo-mo, samurais, brides and exploding shit is also a recipe for good visuals.

This Week I Am Mostly Listening Too...

Tunes

  • M83- Hurry Up, We're Dreaming: One of the best things to ever come out of France. It's their tune that opens The Art Of Flight.
  • The Duke Spirit- Bruiser: Third album of gritty tunes from vastly underrated band.
  • Digitalism- I Love You Dude: I like electro, you might have noticed.
  • DJ Shadow- The Less You Know, The Better: Shadow's back with a much less shit long player. Crunk free this one. Back to the beats and samples we know and love.

BBC continue to develop without repeating themselves. More leccy guitars in this one than last.

The_Drums_Portamento

Killer cover. Killer tunes. It's like, err, killer.
