How To Deflate A Tyre...

In honour of the Quik Pro currently happening down in the Hoss' here's a French flavoured riff from the archives. In it's original incarnation in the mid 00s I got a response on me blog that was longer than the post from a very irate French person who didn't quite twig I actually hold France and the French with great affection. Hell, I lived there for three years and have been there every year pretty much since I was ten. So read on, an ode to a nation that refuses to be conform...

A Little Bit Of Como...

Como Storm by Roger Sharp (surfphoto) on 500px.com

Got back from a week off last night.

As in a proper week off.

No Interwebs. No e-mail. No connectivity. No phone.

It was heaven.

It did help that this was the view from the hotel.

Jet Lag Ash

Joss_Reubyn_Ash

A weekend of waves, wild theories and sleep deprivation in North Cornwall.

Reubyn Ash is at home for once, and he is suffering. He flew in from Hawaii the day before, and boy are his arms tired.

The eleven hour time difference to the North Shore is a killer. Jet lag sucks in any form but when you've been somewhere for two months you break the cycle, the circadian rhythms are reset and snapping them back again to mean old Greenwich Mean Time is an arse.

Ando Goes Berko In Indo...

Good to see old classic spots like Yo-Yos getting sessioned again...

Can't beat the experience of getting the local outrigger boat from Bali to there on the full feral tip.

It's the wonky right with the kickass cliff behind it. It's a bit more forgiving than a lot of waves in Indo. Which makes it perfect for guys like Ando to do mind-bottling hacks and finners out there.

Classic and somewhat timely conversation with our boat captain last time I was there after one of his crew got sliced open while spear-fishing:

  • "Where's you first aid kit?"
  • 'Errrr....'
  • "Well, where's your radio then, this guys cut to the bone."
  • 'Errrrrrm...'
  • "Whilst I am doing a health and safety audit where the hell are the lifejackets?!"

The captain wandered off at this point for a fag and told matey with the wrecked hand to get the dinner on.

We bandaged him up from our first aid kits (essential in Indo, seriously) and I told him to keep the hand above his heart to ease the bleeding.

Half an hour later I went downstairs to the sole bedroom/galley/storage space/shitter/chicken coup and matey was cooking up dinner with his bandaged hand held above his head...

The winter sun does cool things in Porto, long shadows everywhere make the most inanimate things interesting...

An Photographic Slice Of Porto... (Done On An iPhone) - Part 1.

Photo-18

Muggins did the Boxing Day to New Years Day stint in the delightful Portuguese town of Porto. I've been to Portugal a bunch of times for surf shoots but always to the Algarve, Peniche, Lisbon etc so it was cool to see the second city in a strictly tourist 'on holiday' capacity.

You MUST Watch This Film: The Art Of Flight...

Finally saw The Art Of Flight last night, it's a snowboarding film and one that will blow your mind clean out of your earholes covering your wallpaper in sticky brain gunge.

It's worth it though.

Even if, like me, you don't appreciate the intricacies of a corked 720 or whatever the hell they are doing sometimes. It's just the raw majesty of the mountains and the environment and the adventure. That and having an aerial arsenal of helicopters and planes to play with. Not to mention guns and skidoos.

Filmed and edited by geniuses it is. I had to watch it again the second I finished it... Looks utterly amazing in HD. Makes me wish me knees weren't so ruined and I could go slide down some mountains again.

Get it off of iTunes on the link above (do yourself a favour and go HD...) Here's the trailer for the three people in the known universe that have not already seen it.
